There’s no shortage of wellness program ideas to be found online. Wellness directors and benefits managers shouldn’t have to slog through the terrible ideas to find the good ones. So we’ve done a little digging for you.
In this article, we’ve collected a few of the best lists of wellness ideas we could find. They cover everything from nutrition, stress management, and some new wellness ideas you haven’t heard yet.
Your Ultimate List of Wellness Program Ideas
121 Workplace Wellness Ideas from SnackNation
SnackNation provides companies with boxes of healthy snacks for employees on a regular subscription basis. SnackNation’s impressive list of wellness ideas is organized into categories:
- Nutrition and general health
- Fitness and physical activity
- Challenges and contests
- Cool perks and just for fun
- Mental health and personal growth
In addition to great nutrition, diet, and snacking ideas (as would be expected), SnackNation suggests trying out standing desks, offering work-from-home days, and hosting an employee field day.
Moda’s 101 Wellness Program Ideas
This massive list from Moda Health includes some really great stuff I haven’t seen anywhere else. Like SnackNation, this list is broken down into sections according to topic:
- Physical activity
- Stress management
- Program support
Each section includes wellness ideas that cover a range of abilities and interests. Some of the best items on this list are found in the Program Support section.
Ideas such as taking a stretch-break in the middle of a meeting are great ways to include upper management in wellness initiatives. Too often, companies roll out a wellness program and expect employees to pick it up without any encouraging or modeling behavior from upper levels.
Other favorites from Moda’s list include holding an employee health fair, starting walking groups at lunch, and offering on-site smoking cessation programs.
US News & World Report’s Workplace Wellness Ideas
US News & World Report gives a critical look at typical wellness programs, citing a RAND study that shows no net savings resulting from some typical wellness program initiatives.
Instead, they provide 8 ideas that could have a more guaranteed return.
Interestingly, 3 of the 8 suggestions focus on sick time or employee illness. These ideas revolve around making it easy for sick employees to stay away from work.
No required doctor’s notes and no guilt trips means fewer sick employees around to spread illness around the office.
Other gems on this list include another nod to healthy snacks, making sure employees take much-needed vacations, and getting rid of weight-loss competitions.
